Hi! So since this is my intro post, I figure I should tell you a bit about me. My name’s Maki and I’m not really new to the blogging thing. I had a blog, abandoned it and then created one recently on Livejournal to post my fan-fiction. Anyway I’m starting to get back into the feel of blogging so I decided to create another one for my personal use so that my poor LJ friends won’t have to sort through all of my rambling to get to my stories.
Anyway, I really intend to post about whatever’s tingling my fancy at the moment (which could be just about anything). Right now, I’m getting into K-pop – I’m still a noob so if I make any mistakes, feel free to correct me and I’m turning into a total fangirl, oy! Honestly, the real reason that I created this blog – the real impetus behind me joining WordPress – is SM Entertainment’s new group, SHINee.

That’s them! Ha, they’re a Korean boy band that just debuted and fortunately, they’re receiving a lot of support (Yay!). Anyway, I’m developing a serious obsession with them – I got their album the day before yesterday and it’s been on repeat nonstop since then. I could talk your ear off about them but since this is my first post, I’ll stop here. I’ll probably say more in my next post and I really want to do a full review of their album, The SHINee World (which is amazing – I seriously suggest you check it out) but that will be for another…hour probably. edit: Read the album review HERE.
So have you heard of IU? Yes? That’s good. No? Then this post is for you. Mind you I’ve never written a pimp post for an artist before, particularly not for one who I only discovered about fifteen minutes ago but there’s a first time for everything, right? So here goes…
So that Onew tribute video I watched yesterday – check the previous post for the link – inspired me to do a similar post about SHINee as a whole. I wrote it out at work but then I forgot to pick up the papers I wrote it on so I’m doing it off of the top of my head now. By the by, I’m not saying these are the only reasons – just some of the major ones. Well, here goes…
So this is a little unusual for me but I decided to something different and recommend to you an American artist that I’m growing to be pretty fond of. She’s a new artist – new in the sense that she isn’t particularly well known as of yet in the States and she was only recently signed to a label – but she’s already released her first studio album, which I bought a few days ago – her name is Erin McCarley and her album, ‘Love Save The Empty’ is titled after one of the songs on the album.
That’s how long I’ll be in love with KyuHyun’s voice – if it doesn’t turn out to be longer. Ah, maybe you got it, maybe you didn’t but that was just a silly joke referring to his just released solo song which is a remake of YooYoungsook’s ‘7 Years of Love’. Just in case you don’t know, YooYoungsook decided to release an album to mark his 20th anniversary in show business featuring reworked versions of some of his songs (he reworked them himself, I believe) and he chose Kyu to particpate in it and gave him this song to sing.
Anyway, long story short – the song’s finally been officially released (fancams of Kyuhyun singing it at YooYoungsook’s album showcase were floating around the web for about two weeks prior to this) and it’s just beautiful – I’ve been replaying it since I found it a little while ago and I see myself doing so for quite some time to come. It’s a bossa nova rendition of the song and as I’m no bossa nova buff (really, I know next to nothing about it), I was pleasantly surprised to see how well Kyu’s voice suit that style of music. He sounds so breathy and his voice is so light and soothing here – soothing is really the best way to put it. Listening to it, I feel like a spell’s being woven over my mind and as though I’m being lulled off to the very sweetest dreams of Kyu hopefully – it’s equal parts sad and romantic and even though it’s a pretty long song, about 5 and a half minutes, the song just seems to fly by. Every time it ends, I feel a little sad and empty but most of all, surprised that it’s already done. All in all, it’s a really lovely song and definitely something to check out whether you’re a Suju fan or not. I think KyuHyun should be very proud of himself.

That said, yesterday was my last day of work so I’ll have a good bit more free time on my hands for a little while and will hopefully be a little more active around here as a result – expect lots of posts about old things that you probably already watched a million years ago now. ^^ And let me say a short saengil chukhahae to one of my favourite leaders, Teuk-Teuk-Teukie! I have to do a proper birthday post for him in a little while so I’ll just wish him all the best and all of God’s blessings for now. I hope that he looks at this birthday and sees it for what it is – another year of life passed through safely and a chance for a new beginning in his life should that be what he so desires.
Hmm, so I guess I’m a bit late in saying this but I’ve seen a lot of negativity surrounding Kibum as of late and I just wanted to say to all those people who have been getting on his case lately that I know you’re upset and angry but please try not to hate on the guy too much. He still has a lot of loyal fans and it really does hurt them to see him blasted like this and also, regardless of what’s going on right now, Kibum’s generally not a bad guy, you know, and I really don’t think that he deserves all of this hate. Remember that we still don’t know what’s really going on with him. So just tone it down a little, please?

Hola – sorry I’ve been MIA as of late but anyway, I just wanted to share this song I just heard. It’s by Ilac and ChaeRin from Brand New Day and it’s really bright and cheerful and perfect to get you in the mood for summer. It certainly cheered up my less than stellar day so here you go. Enjoy!
LOL, what a scandalous post title. XD Anyway, I’m excited! Wei shenme, you ask? Well, do you remember when SHINee did that guest appearance on 2PM’s season of Idol Show and for the talent portion, Jonghyun sang a cover of 4men’s song ‘Baby, Baby’? No? Well that’s okay (although you should really check out those episodes because they were side-splittingly funny). The point is that he finally sang the entire song on ShimShimTapa (I told you I loved there!) the other day and it was buenissimo, claro!
OMG, you guys, SHINee got number one on MuBank this week! Can you believe that? NUMBER ONE ON THEIR FIRST COMEBACK STAGE! Number one after their first performance, after their first hiatus, after their little comeback setback – THEY GOT NUMBER ONE!!! You guys, I’m so happy right now – I almost started crying when I heard about it, I’m not gonna lie. I haven’t watched the videos of the comeback performance or the awarding and I probably won’t until tomorrow, God willing, (;_;) but I’m still really excited to hear this. This is fantastic, you guys – it’s a great sign for SHINee’s comeback and it’s just totally going to buoy their confidence after their little setback. This is how you want to start a comeback. I just pray it’s a sign of greater things to come. Whoo – SHINee fighting!!!! It’s a great day, you guys – SHINee World celebrate! Yeah!
Okay so this is just a quick update to say that it’s officially announced that SHINee will be having their ‘Juliette’ comeback performance this Friday, God willing on Music Bank, followed by comeback performances on Music Core and Inkigayo on the following two days. Apparently Onew’s recovered almost completely and he’s been given the okay to perform now. That’s really great news, I think. You know I might have been the only one but I wasn’t too dismayed when I found out that the boys’ comeback was going to be postponed. I mean, of course, I wanted them back on stage but I really felt that this must have happened for a reason and that we should look on the bright side and think of it as allowing them more time to practice and perfect their moves. As such, I have all faith in them and I’m sure that they’ll deliver really good comeback stages this weekend. And in retrospect, it was slightly fortunate that their comeback had to be postponed because there was a lot of postponement of music shows and whatnot recently because of everything that happened and that would probably have thrown the boys off so at least this way, they could maintain their focus.
So today, in honour of SHINee’s first anniversary, I’ll tell you a little story of my history with the group. I know I have a tendency to ramble though so I’ll try to keep things succinct. ^^
Okay, I’ve only watched it once so far but I’m seriously laughing at their hairstyles (OMG, Jong has like a mini-mohawk and I don’t even want to start with Onew) and their clothes are….questionable at best but who cares about all that because the Juliette MV is out and it is SMOKING, you guys! Not gonna lie – I really like it. It’s sleek and bright and the boys look great regardless of everything working against them and the more I watch the dance moves, the more impressed I get. I really like the dance, especially during the chorus and towards the end – it’s shaping up quite nicely, I’ve gotta say. This makes me even more excited for their performances now – although let’s hope Jong’s not rocking the hawk for them, although that does not stop him from looking fine, of course.
Also, why does MinHo always get to play the lead? Do they think he’s the least popular or something so if they stick him with a bunch of different girls, nobody will care? Because that is most definitely not the case. Ah, but I won’t complain – I much rather see MinHo cozying up to some girl (although he’s doing nothing of the sort here) than Jonghyun or Onew, that’’s for sure. Oh, and Taemin’s hair actually looks good, you guys! I’m shocked. But of course, Tae’s just cool like that.

Oh, and I heard that today’s the anniversary of the release of the Noona nomu yeppeo MV – yay for anniversaries! Congrats, boys!
So you may or may not know this but Onew had an accident yesterday – apparently he fell down the stairs in front of SHINee’s dorm and dislocated his incisors and the treatment for it will last for about one to two weeks and as such, the boys’ comeback has been pushed back. New dates haven’t been given for their comeback performances yet (naturally) but the mini-album release has been pushed back to the 25th a.k.a. SHINee’s first anniversary. Subsequently Yesasia has pushed back their release date to the 27th - go pre-order it now!
Guess what day it is today? It’s May 15th – Sunny’s birthday! You may not know this but Sunny is one of my favourite members of SNSD – she’s just so bright and happy and cheerful – she really deserves that name, Sunny. She’s truly an aegyo queen and it never looks forced or get annoying – she’s the pep in SNSD’s step and although I think she’s a bit underrated within the group, I know that as time goes by, more and more people will be charmed by her kind, sincere and thoughtful ways. And she’s not just great for aegyo, she’s really smart and well-spoken as well – she doesn’t get a chance to talk that often but when she does, you’d be surprised by the things she says. I’m quite fond of this little shorty (like me!)
Anyway, I wish you a happy birthday, Sunny. I hope that you continue to grow as a singer, a musician, an entertainer and a person. Never lose your spark and your life – continue to bring joy and sunshine into the lives of those around you. Know that you’re loved and appreciated and grow only wiser and stronger as the years go by. I hope you enjoyed today, your 21st birthday and I hope you get to celebrate it not only with your eight sisters but with your family as well. You’ll always be a bright spot in my life. ♥ Happy birthday!
